Dog Walker's Lament
For a number of years, my wife and I looked after a Border Collie named 'Jay' that actually belonged to our son. Jay was a lovely and intelligent dog, a favourite of all who met him.
One particularly foul wet and windy day, needless to say it was my turn to take Jay for a walk, and as we stepped outside, I said to him "Here we go, me doggy lad, here we go agoin,
ploughing through the muddy fields in the pouring rain!"
We walked over to Bishopstone, and I started putting this song together.
Jay used to recognise the song and associated it with being taken for a walk. One day, when practicing some songs with my singing colleague, Roger, Jay was upstairs with my wife.
When we started singing the Dog Walker's Lament, Jay came hurtling downstairs wagging his tail, thinking it meant walkies time! He did this on a couple of occasions.
The Video version on this website uses a different tune to the original, but was the version my band "Eclectrix" used to perform.
